Aptera Update — July 2024: Powertrain News

July 25, 2024

Monthly Update, Validation Phase, Video

We are elated to share the incredible happenings at Aptera this July, including our production-intent build program. It involves the creation of three different builds. We will progressively add more production content and functionality to these builds until we have a fully complete vehicle that has been tested, validated, and made available for test rides. This progress is made possible because of your support, and we want you to know that we don’t take your part in our journey lightly. That’s why we are committed to providing you with updates as often as possible.

Powertrain change: Aptera has integrated Vitesco Technologies’ EMR3 drivetrain into our production vehicles. Although we originally planned to launch with an in-wheel motor solution, the development time required for this technology did not align with our scheduled launch window for customer deliveries. This change ensures our ability to deliver Aptera vehicles in 2025, which we believe is the most important thing to do for the company, our shareholders, and our future Aptera owners.

The Vitesco EMR3 is a highly integrated high-voltage axle drive that combines a permanent-magnet synchronous motor, inverter, and reducer in one unit. This drivetrain has proven its capability and reliability with 10 vehicle brands across more than 20 models, accounting for installations in nearly a million electric vehicles globally. We believe it is an excellent fit for our solar EV.

Pricing: We will not have a set bill of materials/cost of goods until we are closer to launch. Aptera’s final pricing will be announced as we near the start of production.
